Prediction of e-learners’ progress and timely assessment of the achievement of learning outcomes in Lifelong Learning

Paper for Comparative analysis of assessment methods in eLearning submitted on behalf of CRITON project

The Hellenic Open University (HOU) team has submitted a paper which is currently under review and describes the main CRITON research findings. This paper is going to be presented to the 9th Pan-Hellenic Conference with International Participation “Information and Communication Technologies in Education”, which will be held in Crete, Greece at 3-5 October 2014.   More specifically, this paper combines the results of desk and field research about assessment methods used by partners in CRITON (www.criton.eu), which is a European survey about the timely assessment of the achievement of learning outcomes. The project is divided into 8 Work Packages (WP). HOU is the Leader of WP2, who studied the different assessment methods used in e-learning environments around Europe resulting to the definition of the most widely used assessment practices and helping the partners (from Germany, Austria, Lithuania, Greece, Finland and Sweden) improve the practices they currently apply. The main outcome of the project will be a web based platform that will record learners’ progress and provide tools for analyzing their performance and estimating the chances of finally achieving the planned learning outcomes.
