CRITON introduced to the educators of Arbeit und Bildung e.V in September 2013
The monthly meeting of Arbeit und Bildung e.V.‘s educators on September 23 in 2013 was dedicated to the topic “E-Learning”.
As an introduction Mr. Christian Dorn (research associate / AG Prof. Dr. Lin-Klitzing and E-Learning-Consultation WM³ – Weiterbildung Mittelhessen Philipps‐Universität Marburg FB 21 Institut für Schulpädagogik) gave a lecture on e-learning within the education levels VET and adult education. His lecture addressed the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning and several platforms and LMS were presented.
Afterwards Christian Hendrichs introduced the CRITON project. All those present were informed that, within the project, a web based platform will be created to predict the e-learner’s progress and to assess the achievement of learning outcomes in Lifelong Learning in a timely manner.
The present educators discussed the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning and a possible use for e-learning within Arbeit und Bildung e.V. So far there are no full e-learning courses. Some courses do use learning platforms but overall the subject e-learning is still in its early stages at Arbeit und bildung e.V.
During the meeting an interesting discussion started whether a prediction of learning outcomes is helpful or obstructive. Some participants noted that with an early knowledge of an e-learner’s outcome, the teacher can offer specific support for the student. Other educators took the view that a prediction could lead to a teacher assuming the student would fail from the beginning. Ultimately most of the participants believed in a positive benefit and were excited about the further progress of the CRITON project.
Mr. Hendrichs will keep Arbeit und Bildung e.V.‘s staff up to date about the development and the platform will be presented during another meeting once the pilot testing starts. During this phase the educators will have the chance to test the platform in detail.
