Inclusion of Social Media components in CRITON Online Services and Predictability Tool
From the project start it was considered by the Criton project partnership that it would be a useful and valued contribution to the interactivity related to the online tool which the project planned to develop for the predicting the outcome of learning events if also so called social media were to be introduced and used in connection with the online learning outcomes predictability tool.
There were two concrete actions taken during the first year of the project, namely the composition of a document called ‘Technical Requirements Report on the Social Networking Tools for the Criton Platform/Tool”, and the design of an online learning module on “social media tools” intended to be the part of the pilot training programme / learning support materials planned to be the training of the platform/tool users’ preparatory training and precede pilot operation of the platform/tool.
The ‘social networking’ technical requirement report includes both a comprehensive introduction of the potentiality of including a ‘social dimension’ in online services, and highlights the different types of social networking tools that are available on the market, with recommendations on what social dimension tools that could potentially be integrated/utilised in connection with the Criton platform at a pre-design stage of the platform definition/construction process. The social dimension could potentially also apply to other online learning services.
The social media self-managed learning module, being part of the D5.2 Pilot Training Material, include first a rationale for inclusion of social dimension/tools in support-related online services, followed by exemplification of different social media tools, with online learning services for these. The report is concluded with recommendations on considerations about usage of social media in e-learning services.
